Who this fits
This senior technical-lead role suits someone who can guide architecture while working deeply on graphics, geometry and file processing. The position is based in Norway and reports to a Senior Manager of Software Engineering.
From the employer
We’re looking for a Tech Lead / Staff Backend Engineer to join Procore’s Product & Technology Team. Procore builds software that improves the lives of everyone in construction, and our Product & Technology organization drives our innovative, global platform at scale.
We are a customer-focused team spanning engineering, product, design, data, security, and business systems. As a Tech Lead, you will provide technical direction and lead the architectural evolution of the 3D graphics pipelines, geometry engines, file parsers, and data ingestion services that power Procore’s Building Information Modelling (BIM) and construction management solutions worldwide.
This position reports to a Senior Manager, Software Engineering and is based in our Norway location.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the technical design and optimization of high-performance file parsers (IFC, RVT, DWG, NWD, RVM) and 3D geometry engines written in modern C++ and Rust.
- Serve as Technical Lead for the 3D graphics and parsing domain—guiding strategy, rendering architectures, and performance optimization across the platform.
- Architect high-throughput graphics and ingestion pipelines that extract, tessellate, and stream complex 3D models across low-level graphics APIs (OpenGL, DirectX, WebGPU, WebGL).
- Solve complex technical challenges around computational geometry, mesh processing, spatial indexing (Octrees, BVH), and metadata translation.
- Establish engineering best practices in low-level memory management, GPU pipeline efficiency, cross-compilation, and benchmark-driven optimization.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, architectural reviews, and code quality standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership in 3D graphics, game engines, CAD/BIM systems, or computational geometry.
- Strong expertise in modern C++ (C++17/20+) or Rust, with deep understanding of memory layout, multithreading, and low-level performance optimization.
- Deep knowledge of low-level graphics APIs and rendering frameworks (OpenGL, DirectX, WebGL, or WebGPU).
- Hands-on experience parsing or processing complex BIM/CAD formats (IFC, RVT, DWG, NWD, RVM) using native SDKs (e.g., Open Design Alliance / ODA) or custom specifications.
- Strong foundation in computational geometry, 3D math (linear algebra, transformations), mesh generation, and spatial data structures.
- Proven ability to identify architectural risks early and balance rapid feature delivery with long-term codebase maintainability.
Nice to Have (Bonus)
- Experience with WebGPU or WebAssembly (Wasm) for high-performance web rendering.
- Exposure to custom shader development (GLSL/HLSL/WGSL) and GPU-accelerated spatial queries.
- Background in zero-copy deserialization, memory-mapped file processing, or industrial design formats (AVEVA RVM).
