What you'll do

  • Build product features across frontend interfaces, backend behavior and the systems connecting them
  • Deliver features that work quickly and reliably while keeping the user experience polished
  • Shape product and technical choices with design, engineering and the founders
  • Talk with customers to uncover their needs and turn them into product solutions

What you bring

  • You have taken features from idea through launch in fast-moving environments
  • You take initiative, identify what matters and keep work moving without waiting for direction

Who this fits

This role suits a product-minded engineer who enjoys ambiguity, close customer contact and influencing product decisions. It is an individual-contributor position, with three days each week in the London office.

From the employer

Plain is redefining customer support for the next generation of B2B companies. We’re building the fastest, most powerful platform to help companies move beyond reactive support and build true customer relationships.

Some of the world’s most forward-thinking companies - like Cursor, Vercel, and Granola - trust Plain to unify all customer interactions, enable faster team collaboration, and supercharge their workflows with AI.

B2B customer support is undergoing a seismic shift. AI is transforming the way companies engage with customers, shifting support from a siloed function to a company-wide effort across Slack, Discord, and any other channel you talk to customers in. The old way - slow, manual, and disconnected - no longer works.

This role is hybrid with 3 days a week in our London office.

What you'll do

Engineering at Plain is about much more than moving tickets from left to right - it’s about owning and solving problems end to end, from infrastructure decisions to feature design to button copy.

You will:

  • Build across the stack: frontend interfaces, backend logic, and everything in between

  • Ship high impact features that are fast, reliable, and delightful

  • Contribute to product and technical direction, working closely with design, engineering, and founders

  • Collaborate tightly with customers to understand their problems and solve them elegantly

  • Help shape a fast moving, product centric engineering culture

This is a great fit if you…

  • Have shipped features end-to-end in fast paced environments

  • Take initiative and show strong agency; you don’t wait to be told what to do, you figure out what matters, drive momentum and make it better, we move and ship fast here

  • Are impact driven and motivated by seeing customers succeed; you measure the quality of your work by the end experience of users, not the abstractions or cleanliness of the code

  • Want to work closely with customers and shape product decisions, not just execute on tickets

  • Care deeply about craft and love building products that feel simple, powerful, and polished

  • Want to not only do great work in a fast paced team, but also have a voice to level up how Plain as a company works

This won't be the right role if you…

  • Are uncomfortable with ambiguity; we have some really exciting traction but are still at an early stage and are constantly trying new things as our company grows, you should enjoy “being in the storm”

  • Find learning about new technologies a key motivation for coming to work; we invest in what makes us productive but will prefer the known option to the experimental and novel, Postgres is great

  • Are looking to manage others, we're firmly looking for someone who, for now, wants to be an individual contributor
