Role brief

techroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Take features for creative workflows from early idea through launch, then refine them based on how they perform
  • Build polished, responsive browser tools for making and interacting with complex video and graphics
  • Develop APIs, data pipelines and services that support both live and background product workflows
  • Bring modern AI capabilities into product features with the team, accounting for what these systems can do
  • Use instrumentation, experiments, A/B tests and user feedback to guide changes in production

What you bring

  • At least two years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong full-stack web development skills with React, TypeScript, Python or Node.js, plus API frameworks and cloud platforms
  • A solid grasp of algorithms and data structures, paired with practical engineering judgment
  • You can scope and deliver projects end to end in a fast-moving environment

Who this fits

This role suits a full-stack product engineer who wants broad ownership of browser-based creative tools and AI features. Most roles require working in person at the New York City headquarters in Union Square.

From the employer

Mirage is an AI video company focused on making creation dramatically easier. Our team tackles some of the hardest creative and technical challenges in generative media.

We get to rethink how people collaborate with AI that can actually do creative work with them—defining entirely new interaction paradigms for AI-native video tools. We make that possible by building multimodal agents that turn creative direction into edits, rendering engines that composite multiple layers of video and graphics, and generative video models trained from the ground up that create new media when needed.

All of this comes together in Captions, our creative workspace for generating, editing, and designing video. The technology behind Captions is now available more broadly: Tesseract gives any AI agent native video-editing capabilities, while developers can integrate our models into their own products through APIs.

About the role

Our product engineers own end-to-end product experiences for creative workflows—pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the browser by building sophisticated creative tools that span delightful user interfaces, video & graphics rendering, and the integration of large generative AI models. As a small, collaborative team, our product engineers are trusted with a high degree of ownership and agency—directly influencing what we build and how we build it.

Responsibilities

  • Ship end-to-end product experiences for creative workflows, owning features from initial concept through production and iteration

  • Push the boundaries of what’s possible in the browser, building highly polished, performant user experiences for complex, media-rich creation and interaction

  • Build full-stack solutions that balance performance, scalability, and extensibility—including APIs, data flows, and services that support real-time and asynchronous workflows

  • Understand the capabilities and limitations of modern AI systems and work with the team to integrate them thoughtfully into product surfaces

  • Instrument, experiment, and iterate rapidly in production, using data, A/B tests, and user feedback to guide decisions

What makes you a great fit

  • 2+ years of professional industry experience

  • Excellent engineering taste combined with a strong sense of practicality and time-management

  • Able to operate effectively in an extremely fast-paced environment as well as scope and deliver projects end-to-end

  • Strong full-stack development experience with modern web development technologies (React, TypeScript, Python, Node.js), API frameworks, and cloud platforms

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (algorithms and data structures)

Even better if…

  • Experience with complex rendering or real-time media processing

  • You are grounded, collaborative, and willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win

  • You have been a startup founder or an early engineer at one

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans

  • 401K with employer match

  • Commuter Benefits

  • Catered lunch multiple days per week

  • Dinner stipend every night if you're working late and want a bite!

  • Grubhub subscription

  • Health & Wellness Perks

  • Multiple team offsites per year with team events every month

  • Generous PTO policy
