Role brief

techroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Build core product interfaces with React and TypeScript, including tools for drawings and estimate tables
  • Turn early product direction and designs into finished interfaces that are ready to ship
  • Improve load speed, interaction smoothness and rendering for large drawings and dense tables
  • Add reusable pieces to the component library and shape features with product and design
  • Prototype user experiences, gather feedback, then fix bugs and state or rendering issues

What you bring

  • Strong React and modern CSS skills for creating complex layouts and interactions
  • Fluency in TypeScript, component design and managing frontend state
  • A computer science degree or related qualification, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • You learn unfamiliar systems quickly and can turn incomplete direction into a shippable feature

Who this fits

This mid-level, individual-contributor role suits you if you enjoy hands-on frontend work and can make product decisions from incomplete requirements. You’ll work onsite in San Francisco, with weekly releases and priorities that can shift as customer feedback comes in.

From the employer

About Bobyard

Bobyard builds AI systems that automate takeoffs for contractors, saving them dozens of hours per project in a multi-trillion industry still running on spreadsheets and guesswork. Contractors live in our product all day — the interface has to be fast, precise, and obvious. We're Series A, backed by 8VC, Primary, and Pear, and growing fast.

About the role

You'll work on the hardest UI problem we have: rendering large construction drawings and dense estimate tables without friction. Think canvas rendering, pan/zoom performance, and tables with hundreds of rows that still feel instant. You don't need prior experience with canvas or data-dense interfaces — you need strong React/TypeScript fundamentals, real product taste, and to be a fast learner ready to go deep on a problem most junior roles never touch. You don't need to check every box below — if the hard problem excites you, apply.

What you'll do

  • Build and ship core product UI in React and TypeScript

  • Turn rough product direction and designs into polished, production-ready interfaces

  • Work on frontend performance — fast loads, smooth interactions, responsive rendering of large drawings and data-dense tables

  • Contribute to a reusable component library the team ships on

  • Work directly with product and design to shape features, not just implement them

  • Prototype quickly, gather feedback, and iterate toward the right UX

  • Diagnose and fix frontend bugs, rendering issues, and state management problems

What we're looking for

  • Strong React and modern CSS skills — you can build complex layouts and interactions without reaching for a library every time

  • Real design sense — you notice when spacing, hierarchy, or motion is off, and you fix it without being asked

  • Comfortable working from rough product direction — can fill the gap between a mock and a shippable feature

  • Fluent in TypeScript, component architecture, and frontend state management

  • High ownership mindset — you don't wait to be told what to fix

  • Fast learner who can navigate unfamiliar systems and tools quickly

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to have

  • Experience with data-dense or canvas-heavy interfaces (tables, editors, drawing tools)

  • Personal projects or open-source work involving performance-sensitive UI

  • Exposure to construction, real estate, or other "boring industry, real problem" domains

A note on pace

We ship weekly, and priorities move as we learn from customers. Requirements are often incomplete when work starts, and you'll be expected to shape them. If that pace excites you, you'll fit in well.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary plus equity options

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Catered lunch in the office

  • $70 a month toward your commute

  • Team happy hours and events

  • Build a category-defining company with a small, driven team
