Role brief

techroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Build end-to-end automated tests for mobile and web apps, using frameworks such as Appium, Selenium or Detox
  • Run regression checks before releases and after deployment to catch changes that break existing behavior
  • Connect automated tests to GitHub Actions or Bitrise pipelines so they run as part of delivery
  • Set coverage targets, draft test plans and link checks back to requirements
  • Test tablet and stimulator hardware with software, and manually check edge cases when automation is impractical

What you bring

  • At least three years in QA automation, with substantial work on mobile, preferably Android, and web apps
  • Hands-on familiarity with Appium, Selenium, Detox or a comparable testing framework
  • A process-focused approach to planning coverage and producing repeatable test results

Who this fits

This in-person role suits a mid-level QA automation engineer who is comfortable working across mobile, web and backend testing. You’ll work from the Bay Area. TN visa sponsorship or an equivalent is available; H1B sponsorship is not.

Role Overview:

We’re seeking a QA Automation Engineer to lead and scale test automation for our clinical software platform, which spans Android, web, and backend systems. You’ll develop robust automated test suites that ensure our medical devices, mobile apps, and data systems are safe, stable, and ready for deployment in clinical environments. Your work will directly impact patient safety and clinician trust — and will help us scale faster with confidence.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, loves catching edge cases before they happen, and takes pride in building systems that elevate engineering quality across the team.

Tech Stack:

  • Platforms: Android (React Native), Web (React), Backend (Python)
  • Tools: Appium, Selenium, Detox, Jest, Postman, Pytest, Playwright
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions
  • Cloud: AWS
  • Test Management: TestRail, Jira

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation Development: Build and maintain end-to-end test suites for mobile and web apps using tools like Appium, Selenium, or Detox
  • Regression & Smoke Testing: Implement automated regression tests that run pre-release and post-deploy
  • CI/CD Integration: Ensure tests are seamlessly integrated into GitHub Actions or Bitrise pipelines
  • Test Strategy: Define test coverage goals, write test plans, and ensure traceability to requirements
  • Device Testing: Validate hardware/software integration in real-world tablet + stimulator test environments
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and product managers to clarify expected behavior and catch issues early
  • Manual QA Support: Occasionally perform targeted manual testing to validate edge cases or hard-to-automate flows

What We’re Looking For:

  • Mission Obsessed: Passionate about eradicating depression.
  • Driven: Highly motivated and resilient.
  • Effective: Learns fast, adapts quickly, and consistently delivers results.
  • Automation Experience: 3–5+ years in QA automation with a strong focus on mobile (preferably Android) and web applications
  • Tool Proficiency: Comfortable with frameworks like Appium, Selenium, Detox, or equivalent
  • Process-Oriented: You think in terms of test plans, coverage, and reproducibility

Why Join Ampa?

  • Impact: Lead the development of transformative mental health technologies.
  • Growth: Thrive in a startup environment with rapid innovation.
  • Stability: Enjoy startup benefits with a secure product line.
  • Ownership: Receive substantial equity as an early team member.

Logistics:

  • Work Mode: In-person
  • Locations: Bay Area
  • Compensation: $100K – $160K · 0.2% – 0.8% Equity
  • Employment: Permanent
  • Visa Sponsorship: Will sponsor TN visa or equivalent. No H1B.
